Reg Bamford again won the AC Open Singles Championship at Surbiton, beating long-standing rival Robert Fulford -3sxp, +25sxp, +24sxp, +19sxp. Nottingham member Paddy Chapman had been narrowly beaten in an exciting and tight-fought semi-final -4, +19sxp, +26sxp, -20, -16sxp. Alain Giraud, also of Nottingham, had been beaten by Bamford in the quarter-finals.
The extraordinary number of sextuple peels in the tournament (unimaginable a decade ago) reflects the very high calibre of the entry, improvements in capabilities of top players, the conditions at Surbiton and also the use of the super-advanced version of the game which makes it more worth attempting.
The Plate was won by Jamie Burch and the Z event by Joel Taylor.

Rachel Gee this weekend won the Nottingham Golf Croquet Championship after dropping only one game (to husband Will) in the cross block preliminary round and then winning all three matches in the knockout.
The 14 players in this high-calibre championship included 6 of the top ranked 20 in the country. After 7 rounds of block play the top 8 were drawn into a knockout. These included all 5 Nottingham members in the event: Richad Bilton, Euan Burridge, Ian Burridge, Rachel Gee and Will Gee, four of whom won semifinal places. Rachel Gee beat Euan Burridge 3-7, 7-4, 7-6 in the final.
The Bowl was won by Lionel Tibble, and the plate by Morgan Case.
