Volunteering

Introduction

The success of the Women's World Championship, which the club is hosting from Saturday 25th July to Saturday 1st August this year, will depend largely on the efforts of club members volunteering to help, both during the championship itself, the social events during it and with the fund raising events beforehand.

Help is needed with the following activites.  This page shows the rotas: it will be updated by the organisers as offers come in, both to remind people what they have agreed to do and to show where the gaps are.  You can declare your availability by clicking on the activity names in the left hand column of the tables, or by contacting the organiser(s) for the areas you are willing to help with.  The numbers in brackets show the number of volunteers expected to be needed for each activity/session.

Fund Raising Events

Pink Flamingo Day Sunday 14th June

Pink Flamingo Day is a fund-raising and publicity seeking event for Cancer Research UK, involving

teams of 4 from workplaces, clubs, schools etc. in a fun competition where they will have a quick lesson in golf croquet and then compete against each other.  Hosts are required to help marshall the players, explain and demonstrate the rules and strokes and then look after a game; and to serve refreshments.

The Championship

Catering

It is suggested that two people work together to prepare and serve lunch with one or two kitchen assistants to help with preparation, serving and clearing up. One or two people with a kitchen assistant are also required to do tea. If you do not feel able to help with cooking then volunteering to be a kitchen assistant would be a great help.  Help is also needed with serving morning coffee to players, refreshments to spectators and running the bar.

Stewarding

Opening includes unlocking, laying out the lawns (leaving hoops by holes for hoop-setters), opening marquees and putting out chairs, scoreboards, water coolers cups and waste bags.

The sessions during the day include welcoming and directing players and spectators, selling programmes and  marshalling car-parking.

The final session of the day includes the above until close of play, then clearing up by: collecting and emptying waste bags and water coolers; collecting unused cups; taking in the lawn equipment, chairs, scoreboards; closing up the marquees; and then locking up.

Normally two people will be required for each session, except that only one will be needed during the first two (practice) days, from ? to ?.  It is difficult to predict what time play will finish: I doubt that players will want to be around much after 8pm … but the manager may have to keep them at it!
