Changes to club access and security

For reasons explained to members by email, we are making some slight changes to access and security arrangements for the time being. Firstly the gate we normally use to access the main (east) lawns could be locked at any time, and members may have to enter using the side gate just to the east of the east pavilion. Members: please unlock the side gate to gain entry and lock it again behind you, to keep yourself and the club secure. You will know the code number. Secondly we may have to board up some or all of the huts over winter to make them less attractive to any who wish to use them for purposes not related to croquet.

We plan to keep lawns available for our hardier members to enjoy out of season play. The rotation on the lawn booking system has been revised to exclude lawn 5 which now needs some extra care.

In the unlikely event that you see any unwelcome visitors while visiting the club to play, particularly if they are congregating in a hut and drinking, please do not approach them. If there is evidence of antisocial or illegal behaviour, including illegal gatherings, you may wish to call the police on 101.

We hope you are all keeping well and safe, and are looking forward to the Christmas season.

Pavilion refurbishment plans

Following the successful "Triple-aPeel" crowdfunding campaign, despite our funding not yet being fully assured, we are now in a position to proceed with tendering for the bulding work on the pavilions to make the facilities more usable, welcoming and accessible for all.  Draft plans were circulated to members earlier this year for a consultation process. We now have revised, more detailed plans drawn up, and contractors have been invited to tender. We hope the work will be completed before the beginning of the 2021 season, though this is a very tight timescale. In the meantime there will be some disruption to our normal arrangements, but we intend to ensure there will always be sufficient access to equipment storage, toilets and washing facilities to support our off-season playing opportunities.

The architect's technical drawings and proposed schedule are now available to members (you'll have to log in first) at Redevelopment proposals. Please be aware that until we have tenders from suitable contractors, we cannot be certain of the timescales or costs, and it is possible that the extent of the works may have to be revised and/or the timescale may have to be extended, but we will endeavour to ensure it doesn't limit our ability to play croquet and welcome others.
