There seems to be an outstanding level of interest this year from people new to croquet. Following on from the well attended Open Days, we have a first Learn to Play course, now in its seventh week, with most of the participants choosing to join the club. A second course was extended to accomodate up to 24 players and is filled and in its third week. We also held a "Croquet Experience Weekend" which is primarily intended as an enjoyable and sociable weekend of learning croquet skills and playing some games with no expectation (but of course an option) to take it further. Nearly all of the 11 attendees have chosen to join us.
A huge welcome to all who have joined and to those on our courses who may choose to join us. We hope and trust that all our members will make you feel welcome,
Some photos below from the Croquet Experience weekend where your roving photographer was let loose for a while.
From 5th to 13th June, the high profile Viking Open Tennis event (including players such as Venus Williams and Andy Murray) will be taking place at the Tennis Centre across the road from the club, and there will be temporary parking for this within the hockey centre. We are informed that tennis spectators will be directed to the temporary (chargeable) parking and that croquet and hockey users should be directed to the free parking. However it is unclear if there will be sufficient space allocated. We recommend that members and visitors to our B level tournament and Women’s Open GC Championship allow extra time to find parking. If there is none in our normal places, then at weekends parking places are available for public use on the university campus. There is usually space on Jubilee Avenue or in the area behind the psychology building (#29 on this map https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/sharedresources/documents/up-2020-2021-map.pdf ) and there is then a pleasant 5-10 minute walk along the lakeside to get to the club. It is unclear whether visitors to the tennis event will use these spaces too.
These arrangements may possibly continue until 20th June while a "Trophy" tennis event is on.
Parking in front of the emergency access gates just in front of the gates to the hockey club is strictly prohibited during this period.
