Ian Draper won the Jim Kirby Cup

Judith Moore sent the following report of the Jim Kirby cup, which she and Peter organised.

The Jim Kirby Cup, combined this year with Nottingham's Beginners' tournament, was held at Nottingham Croquet Club. Eight competitors in their first or second year of AC play enjoyed the warm sunshine. Four rounds of 14 point full bisque games on half-size lawns gave a lively introduction to tournament croquet. Ian Draper emerged a clear winner on 4/4 and received the Jim Kirby Cup.  Runner-up was Nick March on 3/4. The day ended on a high note with a club tea and the presentation.

Jim Kirby entrants 2012: Nick March, David Aldred, Rhian Schofield, Paul Schofield, Ian Draper, Chris Jackson, Sandy Brown and David Gregson, accompanied by organisers Peter and Judith Moore.

Roadworks and Marathon

There is an update on the NeT website about the works in preparation for the tram extension along University Boulevard.  As far as I can see, any complete closures are restricted to overnight, but the lane restrictions are clearly impeding traffic during peak hours.

Note also that the Robin Hood Half Marathon comes past the club (twice, once on each side of the lawns!) on the morning of Sunday 30th September.  The race starts from the Victoria Embankment at 9:30 am, so will presumably pass us from about 10 am onwards.  There is a route map here.
