Inter-Club etc. Roundup

The club enters teams in a number of national competitions each year, but I regret to report that this has not been one of our better ones for results!

The AC Inter-Club team had a walk over against Bowdon, but lost 6-1 to Surbiton in the semi-final.

The AC Mary-Rose team lost to Pinchbeck 4-3.

The AC Longman Cup team lost to Newport 5-2.

We did not qualify to play in the AC Secretary's Shield this year.

We entered the GC Inter-Club for the first time, but were drawn against the eventual winners, Ashby, and lost 5-2.

We were unable to raise a team to play in the GC Murphy Shield.

Notwithstanding that, I would like to thank the organisers and those who played in the teams for representing the club.

Jim Kirby Cup 2017 Report

The Jim Kirby Cup for AC beginners was held on Saturday 9th September.

There were 12 entries, the best for a while. The weather in the morning was not kind but improved as the day progressed, as did the standard of play.

The cup was won by Paul Maguire but runner up Isaac Leafe gave him a worthy battle. Congratulations also to Diane Lane & Irmgard Finnigan finishing 3rd & 4th. An enjoyable day was had by all and much experience gained in the game of Association Croquet.

The day was particularly made special by a generous donation from Jim Kirbys' grandson Ben Hargreaves. We are reliably informed that he will be a fellow beginner in 2018.

The tournament is a yearly event for 1st and 2nd year beginners in AC with handicap limitations 24 – 18.
