  • Nottingham won Secretary's Shield Final 4-3

Cheltenham, Saturday 30th September.  Dry with sunny intervals but a chill wind.

At lunch, Nottingham were 3-0 up against the Bear of Rodborough.  Omied and Bob won their doubles comfortably, but Dan and David's singles were both single figure margins.

All the afternoon games were tightly fougt, and at one stage Nottingham were behind in all of them, but Omied hit in when for rover and box, having just been pegged out by Richard, who at that stage was also for rover and peg.  In the final game to finish, Bob Thompon pegged out Robert Moss when Bob was for 4-Back with his other ball, and Robert for peg.  After several narrow misses, Bob conceded a wiring lift to leave a double that Robert hit from A-baulk.

Bob Thompson and Omied Hallam bt Robert Moss and Richard Way +19
Dan Greenaway bt Keith Apperley +3
Dave Gunn bt Kate Apperley +6

Bob Thompson lost to  Robert Moss -3
Omied Hallam bt Richard Way +3
Dave Gunn lost to  Keith Apperley -15
Dan Greenaway lost to Kate Apperley -14

  • Nottingham players dominate Bowdon B Level

    Omied Hallam writes:

Three Nottingham members ventured  to the Bowdon B-level tournament last weekend and had success on foreign soil. All three members got to the semi final stage with Clive Goode easily winning his round, leaving Omied Hallam and Peter Moore to battle it out for the other place in the final. After a great fight with both players playing some great B-level croquet, Peter Moore pegged out Omied's balls leaving himself on Peg and rover and Omied on four back with a lift. Omied hit in and managed to struggle his way around the last 3 hoops to win the game plus 3.

This left Clive and Omied to face each other on Sunday with a best  of 3 final. Omied took first blood to win the game in a great back and forth battle. In the second game  at lunch time Omied was ahead on 4-back and 3 back with Clive on two and three with a long way to go. But in traditional Goode style he did not give up and fought back to win the game +3. It was all to win in the final but Omied was playing some good croquet, winning the game in under an hour to win the tournament. All the Nottingham players played very well all weekend and made us proud.
